Brace yourselves; it is that time of the year when hot beverages become the last option, hot coffee lovers will switch to cold coffee & nimbu pani will be the go-to option for everyone. Soon the choice of clothes will change; denim jackets will take a backseat & the linens and cottons will be the preferred fabrics. Your best friend – SUNSCREEN, will be used more often. Yes Summer is here! With the temperatures rising high, it brings along many skin issues.

Rashes, pimples, boils & whatnot.

You can beat the heat literally with a simple & effective skin care routine.

Firstly let us understand what does Summer does to our skin?

The Indian summers can be pretty harsh on our skin & if we do not take care of the skin it can get worse. As we change our clothing every season, similarly our skincare routine also needs a change as per the season.

Staying out too much time in the sun damages our skin deeply. The effect it has may not be visible now but over a period of time, it will be surely visible. Staying long in the direct sun not only tans / darkens our skin but also fastens the skin aging process. Our skin contains a pigment called melanin and too much exposure to the sun causes more melanin to be produced. This is why a prolonged stay under the direct sun can cause a change in your skin colour or even tanning.

This is why irrespective of our skin type, Sunscreen is a must.

In today’s blog, I will be sharing my Summer Skin Care regime.

It is super handy, low on your pocket & super effective. So let's dig in right away.

1. Face Care -

Whomever we meet or probably before even meeting; Face is the identity that we have. May it be for dating sites, social media, Linkedin or anywhere face pictures are required; so it has to be one of the most valuable things u have. Being the most exposed part, you should care for the face for 365 days.

Summers call for a special face care regime- one that keeps it free from dirt, dust & oil. Always make sure to keep the face clean & hydrated. Summers bring many face problems like acne & breakouts. If you are one of them, make sure you splash cold drinking water on the face 2-3 times a day or whenever possible. Don’t use facewash every time you do this. Preferably, use purified Drinking water; avoid tap water. If your face feels dry after this use a small amount of your moisturizer to hydrate the face. Do not forget to use a scrub once a week. Again, a scrub is for all skin types, only the ingredients vary as per your skin type. If you have active acne then use besan + Multani mitti + Haldi powder + rice flour + cold water as a scrub. The fine granules in rice flour will gently scrub your face & Multani mitti can help in controlling acne. If you have normal skin you can use orange peel powder instead of rice flour or even add ground coffee powder to the besan mixture.

Lip balm

2. Use Summer apt products

The creamy & heavy moisturizers you were using in winters won't be a good choice now. Summers need lightweight moisturizers which can help your skin breathe naturally. Choose lighter body lotions instead. Always check for synthetic-free, natural ingredient-based lotions that won’t clog pores. If you have oily skin you can go for water-based lotions or gels. The best natural moisturizer is aloe vera. Take fresh aloe vera gel & rub it all over your skin, it does wonders. You can also try adding 1 teaspoon of glycerine & rose water to water & use this as a last rinse after bathing.

3. Basics –

Most people think they need moisturizers only in winters, but that is a myth. Staying for long hours in AC rooms is a good reason enough to dry your skin.

When I am saying skin, it isn’t just the face but the entire body. Always make sure whatever the season, you follow the procedure – Cleansing, Toning, applying Serum & Moisturizing. Do not forget to apply sunscreen during the day even if u are at home. Exposure to UV rays of the sun can result in wrinkles & skin darkening.

4. Go Natural –

There is a remedy available in nature for all skin & hair issues. There are ingredients available in the kitchen that can be helpful for the skin. Lemons & Tomatoes are good for keeping the skin fresh. Juice the tomatoes without water, strain the juice & fill it in ice tray. Use the tomato ice cube once a day on a clean face to get a dose of instant freshness. Keep it on until dry & wash it off with cold water. Tomato has lycopene which does wonders for the skin.

5. Do not forget the Lips & Eyes -

The sunlight is the hardest between 12 pm to 4 pm during summers. Avoid stepping out at this time & if you cannot avoid don’t forget to apply sunscreen on the exposed areas – face, neck, hands etc. Do wear sunglasses & apply a lip balm with SPF. As it is covid time do wear your mask, it can protect your facial skin as well from the damage. Whenever possible splash some cold water on your face & eyes; this will hydrate the skin & make you fresh along with giving some relief from the heat.

6. Maintain Hygiene –

Maintaining overall body hygiene can help to combat many skin issues including body odour. Simple steps like bathing twice daily will help you keep the skin fresh, wash away the dust & dirt which causes allergies & rashes. If you sweat, too much you can also wash your hair with a mild cleanser daily. Also, keep the body hair to the minimum.

7. Cool your body –

What you eat shows how you look. Eating heavy & oily meals in summers will make your body lethargic. In addition, it can make the skin oily & cause breakouts. Try to include seasonal fruits & veggies in your diet. Drinking a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water on a daily basis benefits the whole body. Instead of colas & other aerated drinks opt for natural sources like fresh fruit juice or nimbu pani. Another trending option for this is the Natures Cereal – Read Here.

8. Let your skin breathe –

Wear breathable & airy clothes during summers. Choose linen & cotton fabrics. Avoid wearing tight clothes or denims for longer period as it may cause sweat to trap & result in skin irritation.

9. Enjoy the Summers –

Sunlight helps our body to produce more Serotonin – a mood-boosting hormone. That is why when it's gloomy we kind of feel low & out of line. Don’t completely avoid the sun; enjoy it with all the precautions.

Have a Happy Summer!
