Monsoon skincare habits

YES, it is possible to have healthy, glowing skin in the rainy season as well; rather you can enjoy healthy clear skin throughout the year without any high maintenance routine. Just follow these simple rules & you are good to go.

I have already made a detailed Monsoon Skin Care blog - check it out

1. Cleanse – COMPULSORY. Cleansing is necessary; a minimum of twice a day. Washing the dirt & grime helps your skin to breathe. Never use any kind of soap on the face; always go with a face wash or a cleanser as per your skin type.

2. Toner – Often people skip this step. Closing the open skin pores is very important after cleansing. Applying toner also preps your skin for further products. Choose a toner as per your skin type or simply use rice water/rose water.

3. Moisturize – Our skin can get severely dehydrated despite the rains & humid air. Dehydration leads to dull-looking skin. Use a moisturizer after toner to hydrate the skin. Again as per your skin type, you can choose a water-based or oil-based moisturizer. Even if you have oily skin you should not skin moisturizer (use a water-based hydrogel instead)

4. SPF – whatever the season it is, never skin Sunscreen. Even if you are indoors the sun rays do reach your skin; hence protect with a broad-spectrum sunscreen which gives protection against UVA & UVB rays. Any sunscreen with a min of 30+ SPF is good. Here also choose a cream or gel sunscreen as per your skin type.

5. Pat Dry – Do not forget to dry yourself, especially the body fold areas like elbows, neck, behind knees, etc. Keeping these areas damp will give you fungal infections which are the most common in the rainy season. Also do not tie your wet hair; just let it open until it air dries. You can use a headband instead.

6. Maintenance – Consistency is the key to everything in life! The same applies to clean clear skin as well. Do not skin the basic steps of skincare – CTM (Cleansing | Toning | Moisturising) Make them a habit & you can have clear skin throughout your life. Replace SPF with night cream or you can end it with a moisturizer itself.

7. Foot Care – The most neglected part of our body – FEET. In monsoons, especially when we walk through the rainwater, you do not know exactly what is mixed in it. Overflowing sewage, roadside waste.. etc all get mixed with the water. Make sure to clean your footwear & most importantly your feet whenever possible. Wet footwear can cause many skin allergies & infections. Make sure to wash the footwear & feet with disinfectant soap. Dry your feet properly & do apply a moisturizer before going to bed to keep them healthy.
