7 remedies to get rid of Dark neck & underarms

For many of us Dark Underarms or Neck are an embarrassment. You would not want anyone to have a glimpse of those dark patches.

Like skin blemishes & dark spots, dark underarms & neck can result in lack of self-esteem & confidence.

Let us first study what are the causes of these dark patches

  1. Cheap deodorant & anti perspirants.

  2. Shaving

  3. Dead skin cell accumulation

  4. Friction due to tight clothes

  5. Smoking

  6. Genetics

The first & foremost thing to get rid of these black patches is

  1. Change your deodorant ( go for a well-recognized brand with least harmful elements)

  2. Stop shaving; trim or wax instead.

  3. Exfoliate or Scrub – scrubbing helps you get rid of dead cells thus making the skin fresh & bright.

  4. Wear loose fitting clothes.

  5. Quit smoking

Remedies to lighten the Dark Skin

1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR – Hello Best Friend !

An all-rounder; ACV has rich content of amino & lactic acids that help clear dead skin cells & lessen scars. Its astringent properties unclogs pores reducing skin darkness. You can simply pour some ACV on a cotton pad; gently pat it on the dark area & let it dry completely. Wash it off with luke warm water & pat dry.

2. Aloe Vera Gel

Known as the natural sunscreen, aloe vera’s anti bacterial natural properties soothes & lightens the skin. Just cut open a fresh leaf from your balcony; extract the gel & rub it on the affected part. Let it sit for 15 20 mins . Rinse with water & repeat it every alternate day. You can use the aloe gel linked below if you don’t have a plant.

3. Baking Soda & Lemon juice-

Baking soda is an incredible exfoliator that unclogs the pores & lightens dark underarms. Lemon on the other hand is an anti septic & a natural bleaching agent. Take 1 tablespoon of baking soda & half spoon lemon juice to form a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area & scrub it over for 4 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water & finish it off with a moisturizer. Repeat this method 3 -4 times a week for effective results.

4. Sugar & Coconut Oil -

Coconut oil again is an excellent natural ingredient which has many benefits for skin & hair. Take 2 tablespoons of coconut oil & 1 spoon sugar in a bowl and mix it together. Wash the affected area with lukewarm water & apply this scrub mixture for 2 mins, let it sit for 10 mins. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Sugar is an excellent exfoliant & when mixed with nourishing Coconut oil, it does miracles.

5. Cucumber -

Along with having excellent bleaching properties, cucumbers are also loaded with various vitamins & minerals. Simply slice the cucumber & rub it over the dark area & let the juice dry on the skin for 10 mins. Rinse it off with water. Do it daily for best results.


6. Potato -

Known to reduce dark under eye circles; Potatoes are also great to treat dark patches & pigmentation. Grate a potato & strain its juice. Apply this juice on the dark area & rinse it off after 15 minutes. Potatoes help in smoothening & softening the skin. Do this daily for 10 days & see the results.

7. Multani Mitti or Fullers Earth -

Rather than spending on any expensive products for Skin care; you can definitely try the age old magical ingredient – MULTANI MITTI (also known as fullers earth) Just take 2 tablespoons of multani mitti & mix it with some lemon juice to form a paste. Apply it on the dark area, let it dry for 15 – 20 mins & rinse it off with luke warmwater. Doing this will gently exfoliate & lighten the dark areas effectively, if you apply it on regular basis.
